Archibald Thorburn's wildlife paintings, mostly done in watercolour, were hugely popular during his lifetime. He designed Christmas cards for the RSPB and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy. His father was Queen Victoria's portrait miniaturist. Thorburn's realistic but softly lit and heartfelt images are still beautifully lifelike and touching.
