Oh! You pretty things. A small collection of beautiful bindings.
We all know that books are beautiful objects, but some, let’s be honest, are more beautiful than others. Our latest short list brings together some stunning bindings made for Princes and Emperors, a very stylish work for a spy who played in a skiffle band, Edward Gibbon’s copy of a scathing attack on the Catholic Church and, by way of balance, some gorgeous bindings on Prayer Books and Bibles. There are bindings from Venice and Amsterdam, and a Cosway binding that isn’t.
